Cobra built the King TEC-MD to do two jobs at once: a short driver off the tee and a big 3-wood off the ground. It leans toward forgiveness over distance, and in testing hit almost as fast from the deck as from a peg.

What's new

This mini driver arrived in December 2025 with a 303 cc head, a titanium body under a carbon crown, and a PWRSHELL titanium face insert using Cobra's H.O.T. Face Technology. It comes in one loft, 13.5 degrees, and plays at 43.75 inches with a Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip.

Adjustment comes from two places. A FutureFit33 hosel gives 33 combinations of loft, lie and face angle, and movable 12 g and 3 g weights in the sole shift where mass sits. Any 3-wood shaft will fit, which helps, because the stock Kai'li deserves replacing.

How it plays

Forgiveness carries it. Our score of 9.5 matches what the testers found: it topped the two-model test on that metric and was called the most accurate of the pair off the fairway, with one reviewer rating it more forgiving than other models on the market.

Launch monitor numbers back up the dual-purpose pitch. One test recorded 162 mph off the tee and 163 mph off the turf, with spin rising from 2,624 to 3,149 rpm, and carry figures ranged from about 240 yards to 250-plus. Feel scores 8.8, and testers described it as lively with excellent feedback.

Where it lacks

Distance trails. At 7.4 it is the lowest of the six scores, and the TEC-MD finished last of two for yardage. Shots from the fairway also carry around 8 yards shorter than teed ones, so the ball speed match does not fully turn into carry.

Choice is thin too. Cobra offers a single 13.5 degree loft, and while the hosel can move it, a player who wants a stronger or weaker head has nowhere else to go. Budget for a shaft swap, since the stock Kai'li drags the package down.

“It hits from the turf about as well as from a tee, and mis-hits barely sting.”

Reasons to buy

  • Finished first for forgiveness in a two-model 2026 mini driver test
  • Ball speed off the turf lands within 1 mph of a teed-up strike in lab testing
  • A FutureFit33 hosel offers 33 loft, lie and face-angle settings to dial in flight

Reasons to think twice

  • Came last of the two for distance, and fairway shots carry about 8 yards shorter than teed ones
  • Cobra sells it in one loft only, 13.5 degrees
  • The stock Mitsubishi Kai'li shaft holds the head back
