Maxfli built the Tour X LS for Ben Griffin, who wanted less spin off the driver than the regular Tour X gives. Now anyone can buy it, and it costs well below the usual tour-ball tier.

What's new

This is a four-piece urethane ball with a softer core than the Tour X and a design aimed at cutting driver spin. Griffin has it in play on the PGA Tour after re-signing with Maxfli for 2026.

Compression lands at about 97 in lab testing, so it is still a firm ball even with the softer core. Maxfli prices it well under typical tour-ball money, which explains a value score of 9.6.

How it plays

Workability scores 9.0 and feel 8.8, both strong marks for a ball at this price. Distance comes in at 8.7, forgiveness at 8.5, and accuracy at 8.2, so the long game holds up without leading the class.

Spin off the tee is lower than the Tour X, though one ball lab still ranked it fifth highest of 48 balls with the driver. Around the green, the urethane cover gives a soft strike, and the same lab measured short-game spin on the low side.

Where it lacks

Anyone expecting a true low-spin driver ball may be surprised. It spins less than its sibling, but plenty of balls in that 48-ball test spun less off the tee.

Urethane scuffs sooner than a surlyn cover, and the softer core costs a little distance against the firmest tour balls. Availability is also thinner than for tour lines from the biggest brands, so it can take some hunting to find.

“It plays like a tour ball, and I keep checking the price because it feels like a mistake.”

Reasons to buy

  • Four-piece urethane construction for well under what the big tour balls cost
  • Soft feel around the greens, helped by a softer core than the standard Tour X
  • Earned Gold on a 2026 ball Hot List with a 4.5 of 5 rating

Reasons to think twice

  • Lab testing still put its driver spin fifth highest of 48 balls, despite the low-spin label
  • Short-game spin measured low, so wedges will not check up like the spinniest balls
  • Harder to find on store shelves than tour lines from the biggest brands

More balls we've scored

  • Wilson Staff Model 2026 - 8.8/10. Wilson's four-piece urethane tour ball matches the longest models tested for distance and spins hard around greens.
  • Titleist Pro V1 2025 - 8.8/10. Titleist's most-played ball gets a faster core and adds spin with irons and wedges.
  • Callaway Chrome Tour 2026 - 8.7/10. A stiffer mantle gives Callaway's 2026 tour ball more speed without hardening the feel.
  • Vice Pro 2024 - 8.7/10. A three-layer urethane ball that matched or beat the Pro V1 in testing for about mid-tier money.
  • TaylorMade TP5 2026 - 8.6/10. A softer five-layer TaylorMade that ranked second for greenside spin among 62 robot-tested balls.
  • Titleist Pro V1x 2025 - 8.6/10. Titleist's firmer, higher-flying Pro V1x trades a little softness for more wedge spin than its sibling.
