PING named this women's putter for co-founder Louise Solheim and gave it one clear job. The G Le4 Louise is a high-MOI mid-mallet fitted for a strongly arched stroke, and for that stroke it delivers a stable face and a soft strike.
What's new
Under the paint sits a cast 17-4 stainless steel body wearing a forged 6061-T6 aluminum cover, finished in what PING calls Galactic Lilac with pearl-chrome accents. Shape and weighting borrow from an existing PING mid-mallet, and this model adds a flared hosel and a parallel tip.
Stock spec is built for women: 33 inches long, a 355-gram head, three degrees of loft, a chrome stepless steel shaft and a PP58 Tour M Lilac grip. It costs premium PING money, so nobody should mistake it for a budget option.
How it plays
Stability leads the scorecard. Forgiveness grades out at 8.6, the best of its six marks, and a high-MOI head keeps the face from twisting on putts struck away from the center. On a strong arc, that steadiness lets the stroke do the aiming.
Feel comes in close behind at 8.5. PING's one-piece PEBAX insert softens impact without going mushy, so pace feedback stays clear on long lag putts. Accuracy sits at 8.3, a solid number for starting putts on line when the stroke matches the fit.
Where it lacks
Fit cuts both ways. PING built this head around a strongly arched stroke, and a player who takes it straight back and straight through will not get the same benefit. Workability, at 7.0, trails the rest of the card.
Size comes down to taste. A mid-mallet sits between a blade and a full mallet, and some eyes want one or the other. Value lands at 7.9, a fair grade for premium money spent on a women's-specific head.
“If your stroke swings on a real arc, this lilac mid-mallet stays calm and feels soft. Straighter strokes should pass.”- The Club Stand gear team
Reasons to buy
- High-MOI mid-mallet head stays steady through a strong arc and earns its best mark for forgiveness
- One-piece PEBAX insert feels soft at impact and still gives clear feedback on pace
- Galactic Lilac aluminum cover and a matching lilac grip look like nothing else in the bag
Reasons to think twice
- Fitted for a strong arc only, so a straighter stroke is the wrong match
- Mid-mallet size splits the difference between blade and big mallet, which suits some eyes and not others
- Premium PING price for a women's-specific head, with a value grade below its stability and feel
