Most drivers chase speed with a new face or a new shape. PXG took weight out instead, and the Lightning Max Lite came back from testing as one of the straightest drivers of 2026.

What's new

The Max Lite joins the Lightning Max 10K+, Tour and Tour Mid as the light option in the family. Its 460 cc head weighs 189 g, which PXG pitches as free speed for golfers with moderate to high swing speeds who would rather not rebuild their motion to get it.

Adjustment is kept simple. An adjustable hosel handles loft and lie, and a single 12.5 g weight sits in a rear port. Lofts come in 10.5 and 11.5 degrees for both right and left handers, and pricing lands at flagship level.

How it plays

Accuracy carries this driver. It posted the second lowest dispersion in the 2026 class for a 9.3, and distance follows close behind at 8.8, helped by a high launch that testers found easy to get.

Feel scores 8.6, a strong number for a head this light, and contact comes across firm and solid, closer to a tour head than you might expect. Forgiveness sits at 8.3, and one of the big annual hot lists gave it a gold rating.

Where it lacks

Workability scores 7.8, behind the Tour heads in the same family. A player who likes to hit a cut on one hole and a draw on the next has better choices in the Lightning line.

Value trails at 7.6, since PXG charges top-tier money for a head built for forgiveness. And the lighter build can feel a little soft to the fastest swingers, who are not the golfers it was designed for anyway.

“Taking weight out bought speed, and somehow it still finds the middle of the fairway.”

Reasons to buy

  • At 189 g, this head is the lightest in the Lightning family, and that saving turns into measurable clubhead speed
  • Second lowest dispersion in 2026 driver testing, so drives stay tightly grouped
  • Impact feels solid and tour-like, more so than its weight suggests

Reasons to think twice

  • Costs flagship money even though it plays as a forgiving head rather than a tour model
  • Shaping shots is harder than with the Tour heads, and workability scores only 7.8
  • Very fast swingers may find the light build a touch soft at impact
