TaylorMade built its 2026 Max head on a bet: drop the 10,000 MOI chase and a big driver can still stay straight while getting faster. On the evidence, the bet pays off. Only the feel lets it down.
What's new
The Qi4D Max is the forgiving model in TaylorMade's 2026 driver family, which went on sale in late January. Its 460 cc head sits on a collar of aircraft-grade 7075 aluminum, and TaylorMade calls it the brand's first modern non-titanium driver.
Weight saved in the collar goes to a 60x carbon face with a cut-through Speed Pocket and a revised roll radius. Fitters get two TAS weights of 13 g and 4 g, a sleeve that moves loft and lie through 4 degrees, and 9, 10.5 or 12 degree heads in either hand. Mitsubishi's REAX shaft comes stock.
How it plays
Forgiveness leads the score sheet at 9.2, with distance right behind at 9.1. Strikes low on the face keep their speed, misses stay in play, and accuracy holds at 8.8. Even workability scores 8.6 in a Max shape.
On a launch monitor, a 103 mph swing produced 153 mph of ball speed and a 248 yard carry, and that tester called it the best TaylorMade in years. Owners agree: 246 retail reviews average 4.9 out of 5, and 97 percent would recommend it.
Where it lacks
Feel draws the only real complaint from testers. Contact comes off flat, duller than the LS model in the same family, and the 8.1 feel score is the lowest number on the card.
MOI also drops compared to the Qi10 Max generation, so anyone shopping for the biggest stability figure will find a smaller one here. Value sits at 7.9 because this costs flagship money, and nothing in the box changes that.
“It forgives like a Max should and keeps its speed. I just wish it sounded livelier.”- The Club Stand gear team
Reasons to buy
- A big 460 cc head forgives mishits, and the Speed Pocket holds ball speed on low strikes
- An aluminum collar frees up weight for the carbon face instead of spending it on trim
- Two TAS weights and a 4 degree loft sleeve cover most fittings
Reasons to think twice
- Feel off the face is flat next to the LS model
- MOI comes in lower than the Qi10 Max generation managed
- Priced at flagship money, the top of the TaylorMade range
