XXIO built the 14 around low weight and high launch, and both show up off the turf. It forgives well and feels good at impact. Shaping shots is another matter.

What's new

Four lofts make up the line, running from a 16-degree 3-wood to a 23-degree 7-wood with 18 and 20-degree options between. Head size drops as loft rises, from 190 cc at the top to 154 cc at the bottom, so the shorter clubs sit compact behind the ball.

XXIO pairs a VR-Titanium UltiFlex face with its own MP-1400 carbon shaft, which weighs just 34 grams. That light shaft shapes the whole design. It sells at premium money, above the budget fairway woods on the rack.

How it plays

Height comes easily. Testers found it launches high and stays easy to hit from the deck, while the light build lets the club move quickly through impact. Distance scores 8.4 and feel 8.5, strong numbers for a club whose first job is getting airborne.

Forgiveness rates highest at 8.6, which fits a high MOI head, and accuracy holds at 8.2. Those two numbers together mean the extra height does not cost much in direction.

Where it lacks

Workability sits at 7.2, the weakest score on the card. Players fairway woods in this class shape the ball more readily, and anyone who wants a fade on command will notice.

Weight sets a ceiling too. XXIO aims it at moderate to high swing speeds, but a 34-gram shaft is not meant for the very fastest swings. Value scores 7.5 because the price sits above budget models, which leaves it mid-pack in the class.

“It gets the ball up without a fight. Just do not ask it to curve on command.”
