The Pro X is the firm, high-launching member of Mizuno's Pro family. It gives you urethane spin and a steady flight at a price that undercuts most premium balls, though it asks for real swing speed in return.

What's new

Mizuno built the Pro X as a three-piece urethane ball and rated it X-Firm at 103 compression. The spec sheet lists a 12 percent thinner cover and a 6 percent thicker mantle, a trade aimed squarely at speed off the tee.

A 332-dimple Axial Flow pattern handles the aerodynamics, and the ball comes out of Vietnam. Within the family it is the higher-trajectory sibling to the Pro S, and it sells in the value tier for a ball that carries the Pro name.

How it plays

Value scores 8.9, its strongest number by a distance, and feel follows at 8.0. Around the green the urethane cover delivers balanced spin, enough to check a pitch without making it hard to judge.

Distance lands at 7.9 and accuracy at 7.8, helped by a flight that stays put in a crosswind. Durability held up well too: a 36-ball batch turned up only two bad balls.

Where it lacks

Long-game spin is mid-range, so a player who wants a long iron to stop dead will see a bit more release than a tour ball gives. Workability trails the rest of its scores at 7.5.

Compression is the larger issue. At 103 the Pro X needs speed to load properly, and moderate swingers will not get the full benefit of the core. Even for a fast swinger, it trails several 2025 balls on ball speed.

“Real urethane spin at a fair price, but bring some swing speed or it feels like a rock.”

Reasons to buy

  • Urethane cover gives balanced spin on chips and pitches at a price well below most tour balls
  • A 12 percent thinner cover over a thicker mantle adds ball speed off the driver
  • Axial Flow dimple pattern keeps the flight steady when the wind picks up

Reasons to think twice

  • Spin off the long clubs sits in the middle of the pack, short of tour-level numbers
  • At 103 compression it is firm enough that slower swings will struggle to compress it
  • Other 2025 balls post more ball speed, so it will not win a distance contest

More balls we've scored

  • Maxfli Tour X LS 2026 - 8.8/10. Maxfli's lower-spin Tour X, built for Ben Griffin and sold well under tour-ball money.
  • Wilson Staff Model 2026 - 8.8/10. Wilson's four-piece urethane tour ball matches the longest models tested for distance and spins hard around greens.
  • Titleist Pro V1 2025 - 8.8/10. Titleist's most-played ball gets a faster core and adds spin with irons and wedges.
  • Callaway Chrome Tour 2026 - 8.7/10. A stiffer mantle gives Callaway's 2026 tour ball more speed without hardening the feel.
  • Vice Pro 2024 - 8.7/10. A three-layer urethane ball that matched or beat the Pro V1 in testing for about mid-tier money.
  • TaylorMade TP5 2026 - 8.6/10. A softer five-layer TaylorMade that ranked second for greenside spin among 62 robot-tested balls.
