PXG built the Xtreme Tour for golfers who swing on the slower side and want a penetrating flight. It wears a urethane cover yet sits in the value tier on price, and at slow speeds it keeps up with the Tour X yard for yard.

What's new

January 2024 brought the Xtreme Tour, a three-piece build wrapped in urethane and dimpled 338 times. PXG puts compression at around 94 and pitches it as a lower-spin design that bores through the air.

It sells by the dozen in the value tier, and its 9.3 for value is the best of its six scores. PXG aims it at slower swings that want more carry out of a lower trajectory.

How it plays

At a 78 mph swing, robot testing could not separate it from the Tour X: both carried 160.8 yards off 113 mph of ball speed. Speed the robot up and a small gap opens, 1.3 yards at 93 mph and 2 yards at 114 mph.

A separate ball test credited it with good distance and put it in the top 12 at low swing speed. Our numbers agree, with 8.7 for distance, 8.5 for feel, and 8.4 for accuracy.

Where it lacks

A July 2026 lab report graded the Xtreme Tour C- for quality and failed it on diameter. Anyone who cares about ball-to-ball consistency should weigh that before ordering a dozen.

Short shots favor the Tour X, which spun more on approaches and wedges and outranked it off the tee, into greens, and around them. The spin picture is muddled too: PXG bills it as lower spin, yet one test grouped it with high-spin models, and workability is its lowest score at 8.2.

“At slow speeds it carries right with the Tour X. I just wish the lab grades were better.”

Reasons to buy

  • Matched the Tour X for carry and ball speed in robot testing at a 78 mph swing
  • Three-piece urethane construction at a price that earns a 9.3 value score
  • Placed in the top 12 at low swing speed in an independent ball test

Reasons to think twice

  • A July 2026 lab report graded it C- for quality, with an F on diameter
  • Falls 1.3 yards behind the Tour X at 93 mph and 2 yards behind at 114 mph
  • Spins less than the Tour X on approaches and wedges, and ranks below it around the greens

More balls we've scored

  • Maxfli Tour X LS 2026 - 8.8/10. Maxfli's lower-spin Tour X, built for Ben Griffin and sold well under tour-ball money.
  • Wilson Staff Model 2026 - 8.8/10. Wilson's four-piece urethane tour ball matches the longest models tested for distance and spins hard around greens.
  • Titleist Pro V1 2025 - 8.8/10. Titleist's most-played ball gets a faster core and adds spin with irons and wedges.
  • Callaway Chrome Tour 2026 - 8.7/10. A stiffer mantle gives Callaway's 2026 tour ball more speed without hardening the feel.
  • Vice Pro 2024 - 8.7/10. A three-layer urethane ball that matched or beat the Pro V1 in testing for about mid-tier money.
  • TaylorMade TP5 2026 - 8.6/10. A softer five-layer TaylorMade that ranked second for greenside spin among 62 robot-tested balls.
