The 0311 XP GEN8 is a hollow, strong-lofted iron that carried farther than anything else in a 2026 game improvement test. It also feels better than the original hollow 0311. Accuracy and a per-club price keep it from being an easy call.
What's new
PXG forges the body five times from 8620 carbon steel, then fills the hollow head with QuantumCOR polymer behind a maraging steel face only .050 in thick. A 27 degree 7-iron puts the set firmly in strong-loft territory.
PXG gives a fitter plenty to adjust. Each head takes perimeter weights of 11 to 12 grams plus tungsten toe weights from 15 to 25 grams, so mass can move to suit a swing. Sets run eight clubs, 4-iron through gap wedge, in Chrome or Xtreme Dark, and PXG prices them per club.
How it plays
Nothing in its 2026 game improvement test carried farther. It won the distance category there and finished at 8.2 overall, and our 9.8 distance score says the same thing.
Feel scores 8.6. One launch review gave it 4.5 out of 5 and singled out sound and feel as a noticeable improvement over the first hollow 0311. Workability lands at 7.7, respectable for a strong-lofted hollow iron.
Where it lacks
Accuracy lags. It scores 7.2, the lowest of its six marks, and the more forgiving irons in this class keep the ball on line better. Forgiveness at 7.9 is good rather than great for a game improvement iron.
Then there is the bill. A per-club price at premium money is easy to accept once and harder to accept eight times, which is why value settles at 7.8.
“An easy, soft hollow head that sounds better than the first hollow 0311, priced by the club.”- The Club Stand gear team
Reasons to buy
- Longest carry in a 2026 game improvement test, backed by a 9.8 distance score
- Adjustable perimeter and tungsten toe weights give a fitter real room to tune each head
- Sound and feel are a clear step up from the first hollow 0311, and feel scores 8.6
Reasons to think twice
- Accuracy scores 7.2, its weakest mark, and trails the more forgiving irons in the class
- Sold by the club at premium money, so an eight-iron set adds up quickly
- Forgiveness rates 7.9, good but well short of what its distance and feel scores reach
