Wilson built the Staff Model XB for players who care where the ball finishes more than how far it flies. It hits that brief. Accuracy scores 9.4, the best mark on its card, and testers kept saying the same thing.

What's new

The XB is Wilson's 2026 players iron, released in January. Under a tour-inspired shape with subtle offset sits a forged hollow body, and Wilson fills the cavity behind the face with internal speed foam.

Sets come as seven clubs, 4-iron through pitching wedge, and each iron is also sold on its own. That puts it squarely at players-iron money, level with the flagship forged sets it competes against.

How it plays

Accuracy carries this iron. In the 2026 players iron field it ranked among the top-scoring heads for accuracy, and one test called it the accuracy leader of the whole players family, with strong proximity from the short irons in particular.

Feel scores 9.0. Centered strikes feel soft, the face is quick, and distance comes in at 8.7. Forgiveness at 8.8 is better than the tour look suggests, and a roundup of this year's players irons put the XB in its most playable group.

Where it lacks

Value scores 8.0, and only workability, at 8.4, comes close to it at the bottom of the card. You pay full players-set money, and beyond the accuracy marks there is not much to pull it clear of the big-brand flagships.

A tour look also asks for a confident swing. Miss low on the face and you hear it, with a sharper sound than Wilson's cavity models make, and the most forgiving heads in the field still cover more mishits.

“I would trust it on any approach where the miss matters more than the yardage.”

Reasons to buy

  • Accuracy sits near the top of the 2026 players iron field, and shots finish close to where you aimed
  • A forged hollow head filled with speed foam feels soft and comes off the center quickly
  • Clean, tour-inspired looks with only a hint of offset at address

Reasons to think twice

  • Priced like a full players set, and little separates it from the flagship sets of the bigger brands
  • Forgiveness is good but trails the most forgiving heads in this year's field
  • Thin strikes sound sharper than they do from Wilson's cavity-back siblings
