Odyssey put its Ai-DUAL insert inside a center-shafted #7 mallet and swept the 26-model test. It had the best score in class at short, medium and long range, and it led the long putts category too.

What's new

The S2S #7 belongs to the Ai-Dual 2.0 line Odyssey launched in April 2026. It is a 360 gram mallet with the shaft in the middle and 90 degrees of toe hang, so the face moves square to square instead of opening and closing through the stroke.

Behind the face sits a two-layer urethane insert, soft on the outside and firm underneath. Odyssey fits an S2S SL120 black steel shaft with a PVD finish, a heavier and stiffer build than the SL 90, and sets loft at 3 degrees and lie at 72. Among zero-torque mallets it is priced in the middle of the pack.

How it plays

No mallet in the 26-model test was more consistent. It led the class overall and at every distance, and the long putts category went to it as well, which matches its 9.5 for both distance and accuracy.

Forgiveness comes in at 8.8, a strong number for any putter. Feel scores a 9, which fits an insert built from a soft outer layer over a firm inner one.

Where it lacks

Workability scores 7, the low mark on this card. A square-to-square, face-balanced design wants a straight stroke, and players who swing on an arc and like to feel the toe turn over will find it resists them.

The grip sets a forward press at address, and testers did not agree on it, although the numbers held either way. Odyssey also offers just 33 and 34 inches, and a value score of 8 reflects a price that is fair rather than cheap.

“Straight-stroke players get a very consistent mallet for mid-tier money, and I cannot find a reason to argue.”
- The Club Stand gear team

Reasons to buy

  • Won the 26-model test outright and posted the best score in class from short, medium and long range
  • Dual-layer urethane insert pairs a soft outer layer with a firm core, and feel scores a 9
  • Distance and accuracy both score 9.5, so speed control and start line hold up together

Reasons to think twice

  • Workability scores only 7, and a 90 degree toe hang suits a straight stroke far better than an arc
  • Built-in forward press at the grip split testers, even though the data held up
  • Odyssey sells it in only two lengths, 33 and 34 inches
