With the ZERO Z5cs Hatchback, Evnroll offers a zero-torque mallet without asking you to give up a milled face. It is forgiving and easy to line up, and it costs real money.
What's new
July 2025 brought the Z5cs, a winged hatchback mallet with a center shaft. Evnroll mills the head from 6061 aluminum, runs sightlines along the full body, and moves up to half the head weight into tungsten and steel weights in the extreme heel and toe.
Each length gets its own head weight: 385 g at 33 and 34 inches, 370 g at 35. Loft is 2 degrees on a 70 degree lie, a pin hosel lets you move the lie 2 degrees either way, and a Cursive grip in black and white comes stock. At its price it sits with the premium putters.
How it plays
Forgiveness, at 8.5, is the best number here. With that much mass parked at the heel and toe, off-center strikes lose little, and accuracy follows at 7.8. The hatchback shape with its long sightlines makes it simple to set the face square at address.
Feel earns an 8.0, which tracks with what the SweetFace grooves and the milled aluminum are meant to do. Measured against 25 other zero-torque putters, the Z5cs scored -6.7 overall, -7.3 on short putts, -3.5 from medium range and -8.6 on long ones. More negative is better, and that -8.6 backs up an 8.0 distance score.
Where it lacks
Putts from 10 to 20 feet give it the most trouble. Its -3.5 from medium distance trails both -7.3 on short putts and -8.6 on long ones by a wide gap, so the putts you most want to hole are where it gives the most back.
Workability sits at 7.0, which matters less on a putter than on an iron, though nothing else here scores lower. Value comes in at 7.5, since the price ranks with the dearest in the market while the test results land in the middle.
“It forgives a lot and lags it close. I want it better from 10 to 20 feet for this money.”- The Club Stand gear team
Reasons to buy
- Forgiveness scores 8.5, helped by tungsten and steel weights pushed out to the extreme heel and toe
- SweetFace variable-depth grooves and milled 6061 aluminum give a feel that scores 8.0
- Full-body sightlines on the hatchback head make it easy to aim, and the pin hosel adjusts lie by 2 degrees
Reasons to think twice
- From 10 to 20 feet it scored just -3.5 in a 26-putter zero-torque test, far behind its -8.6 from long range
- No category scores lower than workability, at 7.0
- Priced at premium putter money, which pulls value down to 7.5
