Vice built the VGP04 ZT for players who want zero-twist stability without paying flagship money. On long putts it nearly won a 26-model test outright. Closer to the hole, the story gets more complicated.
What's new
The VGP04 ZT is the mallet half of Vice's zero-twist line, which debuted in March 2026 alongside the VGP03 ZT blade. Both heads use what Vice calls Zero Twist balance, meant to keep the face from rotating open or shut during the stroke.
Like most of what Vice sells, it lands in the value tier, priced below most zero-torque putters on the market.
How it plays
This mallet does its best work from long range. Its -10.3 handicap score from distance in a 26-putter zero-torque test was bettered only by the Ai-Dual S2S #7, at -10.4. On that scale more negative means better, so the VGP04 ZT finished runner up for best long putter in the field.
Our distance score of 9 reflects that result. Forgiveness and feel both sit at 7.5, and workability at 7, so it is a capable all-rounder whose real gift shows up on lag putts.
Where it lacks
Performance drops off hard once the hole gets closer. Short putts scored -5.2 and medium putts managed just -2.5, so its overall handicap of -5.8 trails its long-range showing by a wide margin.
An accuracy score of 6 tells the same story. If you lose strokes by missing short and medium putts rather than by leaving lag putts out of reach, this mallet will not fix much.
“On a long lag I would put it against almost anything. Inside that, I trust it a lot less.”- The Club Stand gear team
Reasons to buy
- Runner up for long putts in a 26-putter zero-torque test, a hair behind the Ai-Dual S2S #7
- Zero Twist balance keeps the face steady on long strokes, and distance control scores a 9
- Sits in the value tier, below most zero-torque putters, which earns it a 9 for value
Reasons to think twice
- Short putt results (-5.2) fall well short of its lag putting, so the scoring range suffers
- Medium putts fell to -2.5, worse than either other range and a sharp drop from the long-range numbers
- Accuracy, at 6, trails every other score it has
